Serotonin! Yes! Oxytocin! Now! (2021)
Hand-painted with ink on tracing paper, inkjet print on 90gsm A4 paper
375 x 6300mm

Serotonin! Yes! Oxytocin! Now! is a text-based installation exploring the reciprocal relationship between the mind and the body in a mental-health related context. Mimicking Octavia Butler’s affirmations, the piece questions the possibility of summoning more of the happy hormones into one’s body through using mental force—by repeating a chant. The featured poem ‘London is a bed I can’t leave’ gives a snippet of the circumstances that can aggravate the urgency for more serotonin and oxytocin in the contemporary world by illustrating a day in the life of the artist who suffers from a lack of touch, sleep, support network, and financial stability.
